When do I have to register by?

You can register online at active.com until Monday, July 21, at 11:59 p.m.

Late registration will be available during packet pickup. This will take place on Tuesday, July 22  and Wednesday, July 23 from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. We cannot guarantee registration availability at packet pick-up however as once we hit capacity we will no longer be able to accept new registration. So if you want to guarantee your spot, register online in advance!

When and how can I pick up my race packet?

All race packets must be picked up at our packet pickup location at:

This will take place on Tuesday, July 22 and Wednesday, July 23 from 2:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. You may pick up packets for someone else if you bring a signed note authorizing you to do so. At packet pickup you will get your timing chip, race number, shirt and goodie bag. Shirt size availability is on a first come first serve basis.

You may park in the Marriott hotel parking lot, enter through the main entrance and proceed downstairs. Take the exit doors to outside and we will be set up in the main tent.

All participants will need to pickup their timing bib and race shirt on Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be NO race day packet pickup!

Is there prize money or awards?

The prize money for the Marathon and Half Marathon is for Utah residents only: $1,000 for first, $500 for second and $250 for third.

The prize money for the 10k is for Utah residents only: $1,000 for first, $500 for second, $250 for third. The first Utah masters finisher will receive $250.

All finishers of the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k and 5k will receive a finishers medal.  There will also be award medals given to the top three in each age division for the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k and 5k. We will have an awards tent near the finish line for placers to pick up their medals.

Do you allow wheelchairs and handcycles in the races?

We do allow them and have special divisions for both.  We however encourage anyone using wheelchairs or handcycles to carefully examine our marathon course, as the first few miles are very steep and difficult to maneuver.

When do the buses leave for marathon and half marathon?

Marathon buses will leave from Rice-Eccles Stadium ONLY promptly from 3:30 –  3:45 am. Buses will be lined up along the west side of Rice-Eccles Stadium. It is your responsibility to arrive early enough to park and be seated on a bus in time to ride to the top of Big Mountain. Do not plan on driving to the top. The marathon starts at 5:30 a.m. After the race there will be shuttle buses at the finish line area lined up along 700 East of Liberty Park to transport runners back to their vehicles. Due to the state holiday, the parade and the race route closures and traffic, these shuttle buses will take some time to make their rounds so plan accordingly.

Half Marathon buses will leave from Rice-Eccles Stadium ONLY promptly from 4:15 – 4:45 am. Buses will be lined up along the west side of Rice-Eccles Stadium.  It is your responsibility to arrive early enough to park and be seated on a bus in time to ride up to Little Mountain. Do not plan on driving as the canyon will be closed. The marathon starts at 5:30 a.m. After the race there will be shuttle buses at the finish line area lined up along 700 East of Liberty Park to transport runners back to their vehicles. Where does the 10k and 5k start?

The 10k begins at 6:00 am at Research Park on Chipeta Way (University of Utah campus) next to Fort Douglas Cemetery.The 5k begins at 7:00 a.m. at the Wasatch Elementary School Playground, located at 1150 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, and finishes at Liberty Park. After the race there will be shuttle buses at the finish line area lined up along 700 East of Liberty Park to transport runners back to their vehicles. Due to the state holiday, the parade and the race route closures and traffic, these shuttle buses will take some time to make their rounds so plan accordingly.

Where can I park for my event? Will there be a way back to my car?

In the marathon and half marathon you will want to park at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Those running the 10k will want to park in the areas surrounding Research Park at the University of Utah.  5k runners should park near Wasatch Elementary School.  We recommend arriving early to find the best parking locations.

There will be shuttle buses near the finish line taking people back to Research Park, Rice-Eccles Stadium and Wasatch Elementary School from 6:30 am until 12:00 pm. These buses will be lining up along the northeast corner of Liberty Park along 700 East. Because of traffic and road closures, these buses can take some considerable time making the rounds. If you are in a hurry, we recommend having someone pick you up near the park. Walking back to the 10k start is about two miles.

Is there a time limit in the marathon and half marathon?

In accordance with the Salt Lake Police Department, the marathon course will close after six hours. After that, all runners will be directed toward the sidewalk and clean up at the finish line will begin.

Half Marathon runners will be redirected at 8:30, they will be routed onto the marathon course and cannot come down 200 E.  This will give you 2.5 hours to get to mile 11 before the re-route takes place.

How many aid stations are there and what is located at each one?

In the marathon there are aid stations at every other mile starting at mile three.  There will be Powerade at the aid stations located at miles 5, 9, 13, 17, 21 and 25.  There are “LG Energy” gels at miles 15 and 19.  The half marathon will have water stations at every other mile, with power aid at every other water station. “LG Energy” gels will be at mile 6.  In the 10k, there are two water stations and the 5k has one water station. At the finish there will be water, Magleby’s Fresh french toast, Creamies, and fruit.

Remember that not all the aid stations are exactly at the mile markers because of logistics in the canyon, but they are placed as closely to them as possible.

Is the Marathon a Boston Marathon qualifier?

Yes, as a USATF certified race and course, you can qualify for the Boston Marathon at our race.

Will there be bags to put extra clothes in at the start lines?

In the Marathon and Half Marathon, we will have bags and sharpies to write your number on that we will take down to the finish line.  We will not have this service for the 10k or 5k.

Are there portable bathrooms available on the course?

We will have bathrooms available at the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10k starts, the finish line at Liberty Park and by all the aid stations.

Will there be pacers on the course?

Yes, Utah Race Pacers will be out pacing the Marathon and Half Marathon events!

Do we have to wear the timing chip on our shoe?

In order to be timed correctly, you need to wear the proper timing chip and attach it to your shoelace.  If you hold it in your hand or have it placed anywhere else, you run the risk of not being timed.  Also, please wear your race number in a manner where it is visible to race officials.  Failure to return the timing chip will result in a replacement fee.

Can I get a refund or transfer my registration to another runner if I cannot attend?

Once registration fees have been collected we are unable to offer refunds, however you may transfer your registration to another runner with a $10 transfer fee if you do so by July 17, 2014. To do so, simply log into your active.com account and under My Events click on Transfer registration to another athlete.  From there you will enter the email address of the new participant and they will receive an email link to get registered. The new participant will be charged the registration fee when they register and you will receive a refund minus the $10 transfer fee.

Can I transfer my registration to another category?

Yes, you may transfer categories if you do so by July 17, 2014. However we cannot offer refunds on the price difference if transferring to a lower priced category, and you must pay the price difference if transferring to a higher price category. To do so, simply log into your active.com account and edit your registration from there.
